Including a lantern in a conservatory design will add to the ceiling height and give a feeling of real space. The two-tiered design adds an extra level to the main roof and works particularly well on large homes of the Victorian and Edwardian period where a relatively squat conservatory can look out of character.
The second tier of windows can include opening windows to increase ventilation, but you will probably need to have these electrically operated due to their height from the floor of the conservatory.
If your budget allows, consider including coloured glass or a stained glass effect in the vertical panels of the lantern to complete the period effect.
