Birmingham Oak – Local Oak Tree History

The name Selly Oak was derived from Sarah's oak (later Sally's oak) after a local witch who was either hanged from it or was buried under it with an oak stake through her heart, which later it was claimed grew into an oak tree.

A Tropical House was built in the Birmingham Botanical Garden in 1852, followed by a Subtropical House in 1871 and the Terrace Glasshouses in 1873. To get a conservatory of your own, call us now!
