Hampshire Oak – A Seafaring Story

The oak trees in the new forest in Hampshire were for many years grown to build the ships for Britain’s naval fleets. Such was Britain’s seafaring supremacy that Philip the king of Spain laid elaborate plans to destroy the new forest by fire. His plot failed and the oaks in the new forest remain strong and proud today.

An early conservatory was built at The Grange in Hampshire in 1824, at what is now Northington Grange. It is now the home of Grange Opera.
