AREAS OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY

Natural England is concerned with protecting landscapes for now and future generations and part of their work in achieving this is to designate Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

An AONB is a landscape whose distinctive character and natural beauty are so outstanding that it is in the nation's interest that it is safeguarded.

There are 40 AONB in England and Wales (35 wholly in England, 4 wholly in Wales and 1 which straddles the border). Their care is entrusted to the local authorities, organisations, community groups and the individuals who live and work within them or who value them.

If you live in or close by an AONB, you will usually need Planning Permission before building a conservatory. You can find out more about AONB and the regulations around building in or close to them by following these links:
