VAT LEGAL UNDERTAKINGS
What happens if the zero VAT rate is offered or asked for illegally – a word or two of caution if any attempt is made to evade, rather than legitimately avoid VAT.
- It is illegal for a company to offer a conservatory without VAT or for a customer to ask for it without the VAT.
- If a customer asks a company to undertake the construction of a conservatory without VAT, they will have committed an offence and by law the company should report this to the relevant authorities. Whilst most reputable companies will politely refuse the request and take no further action; to save embarrassment and a knock on the door from your friendly VAT inspector, the question should not be asked!
