Laminated glass unlike toughened glass will, when hit with force crack rather than smash into tiny pieces. You are probably most familiar with laminated glass being used in the windscreen of a car.
Because it can be difficult to break, it can be dangerous when you do need to break it, for example, in the event of fire. But this is an advantage if security is a major consideration.
Laminated glass is made by bonding two layers of ordinary annealed glass in a sandwich around a plastic sheet. Typically this would be: 3mm glass + 0.38mm plastic sheet + 3mm glass, giving a final product that would be referred to as 6.38 laminated glass.
As laminated glass is thicker than regular glass it also has better insulation properties... to cold and noise, however it is also more expensive than toughened glass and you will need to weigh up the additional cost compared to the security properties and insulation aspects.
