The name Orangery Conservatory is really a misnomer brought about by the fusion of conservatory and orangery designs. A conservatory is characterised by including a greater area of glass than in an orangery of similar size, while an orangery will have a flat roof area and include one or more roof lanterns set within it.
An orangery will almost certainly be built on a brick parapet wall while a conservatory can be built on a similar wall or be glazed to the ground.
But of course sometimes a building can be glazed to the ground and have a flat roof area with roof lanterns inset. In this instance you have an orangery-influenced conservatory or a conservatory-influenced orangery!
The design does have practical advantages in some situations. Often it is necessary to have easy access to upper windows in a property to meet safety regulations and this can be achieved if there is a flat roof. And a flat roof will also provide more privacy from any windows above.
