Hardwood conservatories come in many forms. A hardwood conservatory can be made from a variety of hardwoods including oak, mahogany, meranti, sapele, idigbo, iroco and utile. However, hardwood conservatories cannot be manufactured in a common hardwood such as beech, because its qualities make it a wood suitable for internal use only.

When considering a hardwood conservatory it is worth checking whether it is environmentally friendly by visiting Friends of the Earth. You will find that some hardwood conservatories are made from wood that is not environmentally friendly. African, Indonesian and hardwoods from South America are at the most risk.

When choosing a hardwood conservatory check with the designer or installer if the hardwood being used comes from a sustainable source to maintain your green credentials.
