Move It - Not Me Says Sir Cliff

by Conservatory Man on 18/08/2009

After a 50-year break, Sir Cliff Richard seems to have rediscovered the rebellious nature of his teenage years and has put two fingers up to planning officials who ordered him to demolish his £30,000 conservatory.

He has appealed to Runnymede Borough Council saying that his conservatory could not be seen from the road and therefore did not impact on the character of the area.

When the conservatory was built several years ago, the builders told Sir Cliff that it did not require planning permission. Which just goes to show that unless you work with a trustworthy architect, designer or builder, you could face problems with any home extension, whether it’s a single room, a conservatory or an orangery.

The planning rules were very clear then and perhaps a little less clear so now, as changes to the Planning Rules that came into force in October last year, are being interpreted in different ways by Councils.

Nevertheless, its sensible to check the Conservatory Planning Permission guidelines that you’ll find on our website and then talk to us.

We are always happy to explain the new regulations, discuss your situation and give you an opinion based on our considerable experience across the country with this. And if there’s any doubt, we always recommend talking to your local Planning Authority for advice.

I understand that Sir Cliff wishes to sell the property that the conservatory is attached too. So if you’re reading this Sir Cliff, give us a call when you move and we’ll give you a quote for a much nicer conservatory than you currently have, that we will install at your new home.
