Looking to Buy a Smaller Oak Conservatory or Orangery?
Good things come in small packages
Adding an oak conservatory or orangery glazed extension to your property gives not only extra room, but a dose of natural light too, it also means you can get more enjoyment from your garden all year round.
At Richmond Oak, a question we are asked frequently is about the room required to be able to add a practical conservatory or orangery to a home, the simple answer is we will design the glass extension to fit in with all the requirements. We ask at the design stage practical questions and take into account the space you have within your garden or outdoor area where the orangery or conservatory is to be built.

With design in mind, it may well be that a smaller glass extension with a single or sliding patio door is all the new living space requires. By working with our design team we will advise on how to create the perfect space and utilise the room to maximum effect. It could be the much required additional room for an office or an open plan extension to your burgeoning kitchen.
Another thing to consider is the timescales on a smaller hardwood conservatory or oak orangery, this is likely to be quicker as planning permission is less likely to be required, depending on the agreed design.

There are many points to consider when building your new glazed extension.
In a smaller conservatory or orangery, it is important to think of not only the exterior design but also how the interior design will flow.
This covers things such as the painted finish on walls and furnishings; thinking ahead realistically if you have a smaller glazed extension, you do not want to be cramming in a massive table and chairs. This is where our designers can help you with realistic expectations with practical space.
Helping to give advice on a more compact dining area for example, maybe with bench seating with storage underneath to achieve all you want from the area but keeping it from looking cluttered.
During the day the conservatory or orangery will be flooded with light, come the evening you want a design finish that gives space and cosiness in one, having potentially white walls is a good idea but having soft furnishings to create the cosiness and contrast to this is important as is the already mentioned storage, at night time, you want to be able to throw open your doors to the garden, with no mess around you and soft furnishings that complement your smaller surrounds.
Thinking about smart furniture, with lots of storage is one way of maximising your space, also consider the lighting, a couple of incidental smaller lamps with some floor standing lamps help to create an ambient atmosphere.
This is, of course, should you be looking to turn your new glazed extension into a dining room or kitchen extension.
With current working from home becoming the new normal one of the reasons our clients are looking to have a conservatory or orangery built is for creating a home office, there are many studies showing that the amount of light you get can affect your moods, imagine working from home sat next to your window, looking out at the garden.

Maybe the addition of the glass extension will be more of a chill-out zone, somewhere to have a cosy corner away from the kids? Maybe with a bookshelf? Or a TV with a games console? Again using smart furniture with storage means this room can deliver on peace and tranquillity….well maybe not so much tranquil with the games console!
