We hope you find our top 6 trends for 2021 interesting and hope they inspire you.

1. Home & Garden Become One

We all know that the weather can be hit and miss in the UK, snow in March anyone? However we all love relaxing in our gardens, be it a family BBQ with or a takeaway on the terrace, we all gravitate to the outdoors.

This is where our design team can help, creating a seamless flow between the home and garden.

In 2020 we have seen a significant increase in our clients wanting to create a glazed design as an extension to the existing property, with a natural flow through the home, with bi-folding doors or sliding, meaning there is no compromise on space, flooring to follow the existing design of the home ensuring the glass extension is a natural, stylish addition to the home.

A fantastic example of this is shown in our link to one of our case studies, please click the link to read more:

The main objectives of this stunning seasoned oak orangery project in Surrey were to create a contemporary, bright and spacious open plan living environment that extended from the kitchen area.

2. Open Plan Living

A majority of our clients have seen open plan living on television programmes and in magazines, it is now considered a modern feature of interior design.

With the obvious benefits of space, it also has the benefit of bringing people together, whether that be family or entertaining friends, no longer are you confined to the kitchen to cook dinner, you can happily mingle whilst cooking the sumptuous dinner...or fish fingers for the evening!

As this is an on-trend glass extension there are also the benefits in adding value to your home.

Richmond Oak will work and inspire you to create the perfect glazed extension design for you, should that be a design that expands and blends in with your original structure or a dramatic glass extension to make a statement.

3. Kitchen extensions

By far our most popular glazed extension of 2020 has been to create a spacious kitchen extension, creating a family area that involves the whole family, truly a heart of the home, with contemporary two-tone kitchens with integrated high tech appliances, giving the heart of the home, room for the all the family and friends to socialise and gather.

It is said all the best parties people are to be found in the kitchen, so what better way to celebrate this room than with a light and open space, designed to be unique to you and your family, incorporating perhaps a  dining table? A breakfast bar? A wine store? The possibilities are endless.

4. Decor flow

If you have in mind that you wish to extend your home, one of the concerns our clients raise is that it may not naturally blend in with the existing home, there is the obvious choice of decorating, wither in the existing colours or complimentary, however, there are other things to consider, such as flooring and soft furnishings, Richmond Oak find out exactly what you will be using your new glazed area for and help with planning, for example, if you want a comfy snug with sofas, we work out the size required, so as your extension is not too cramped but has adequate room, we also advise on heating, and can help you plan the job through to completion, with decorators and interior designers.

You may favour minimalist or crave a country cottage look, we can help you achieve your dream conservatory or orangery. With our expert design, we can seamlessly bring the outdoors in.

5. Conservatories

The best way to create a larger, airier and bright space is with a conservatory, featuring more glass than its sister the orangery, it maximises your light, creating a natural annexe to the garden and home, what better way to spend an evening than cloudbusting or star gazing from the comfort of your own sofa.

A conservatory is predominantly made up of glass within a timber frame to both the roof and sides.

6. Orangeries

Orangeries are perfect to upgrade your existing home, with a structure that blends into your existing home, less glass, lantern roof lights, perhaps sliding or bi-folding doors, orangeries truly transform your home and add value, it is a sensible investment and given the current unusual times we find ourselves in, give much-needed space to transform your home, giving you space for the home office, or additional living space, with a seamless design it is perfect for period and listed properties.
